JavaScript & Temboo & Charts

I had a great experience with Temboo, the “API for API’s.”  Temboo was something that I knew about for awhile but was afraid that it was going to be just too hard. Well, It was very easy to get going and I was so proud that I set up most of the code myself! I used the FitBit API and the JavaScript code from the code creator on Temboo’s website. It was empowering.

One issue that I ran into was understanding the data that FitBit returns. What looks like a JSON object is actually a string. Being an amateur coder, I had no clue what was wrong — thanks to Surya & Shilpan who came to the rescue and helped me understand! I now have my live “step count” from FitBit printing in my browser!

Next, I dove into the visual representation of the data. I explored the Chart.js code and was able to implement a chart into my site:

My next challenge will be to get the FitBit data talking to the chart in real time (and hopefully the YUN will cooperate and connect soon as well.)
